👋 Around Our Community

🚛 City-wide clean-up day is Saturday, May 9! This one is a favorite for me as an aspiring minimalist mom! You can put dressers, chairs, old electronics, beds, and more out on the curb for pickup. Last year, pick up was EARLY in the morning so make a note to set it all out the night before!
A few rules to keep in mind: items must be six feet or smaller, and construction materials, demo debris, and yard waste aren’t accepted. Appliances and items with screens may require a fee or a sticker. For more details, contact Walters Sanitation at 515-432-2866.

📌 Community Board

• The community refrigerator–located at the Granger Public Library–is accepting donations. Items like milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables are always a great fit.

• Do you have a volunteer opportunity, job posting or another local announcement you’d like included here? Reply to this email and let me know and we’ll share with our readers!

📰 Top Local Stories

New Trail System
Polk County Conservation and the City of Granger are in the early discussion stages of a potential trail system connecting Brenton Slough* to Jester Park. The proposed route would run through Granger—meaning a direct trail connection to Jester Park could be in the future, according to City Administrator Kirk Bjorland.
Trails like this offer accessible outdoor recreation for all ages and are a great way to support overall well-being.
*Side note: I didn’t know what a slough was so if you’re in the same boat–a slough (pronounced “sloo”) is a marshy, shallow body of water. The Brenton Slough is a 1,113 acre area located southeast of Granger in both Polk and Dallas counties.

🗓️ Event Highlight: Blue Hour Watercolor Workshop

Local creative Kiely Frazier Merrill is hosting a watercolor basics class on April 14 at 6 p.m. at the Granger Community Center. Learn the fundamentals of watercolor while painting daffodils in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. You’ll leave with your own finished piece and a 4x4 frame. Kiely says this one is designed to be very beginner-friendly and relaxed—no experience needed.

🏪 Local Business Spotlight

What started as a chance discovery turned into a 14-year connection to Granger for the Janning family. Today, Janning Family Chiropractic has been part of the community for over a decade, supporting families who want to live healthy, active lives.
Dr. Janning’s biggest passion is working with kids, whether they’re dealing with ear infections, colic, immune challenges, or neurodivergent concerns. The practice loves seeing families too though; not just in the office, but out in the community thriving.
