A Little Social

Roller Skating in Dallas Center
Dallas Center Mound Park |  7-9 p.m. | Free
It’s a 15-minute drive, but it’s free! Bring your own skates or use the rink’s free quad and inline skates, available in toddler through adult sizes. Join in for music, games, prizes and budget-friendly concessions. This week’s theme is Dance Party—dress for the theme and get a participation treat!

🏪 Local Business Spotlight: Banner Con Amor

What started as a banner for her son's first birthday in February 2025 quickly turned into Banner Con Amor. After owner Juana Olvera shared her creation on Snapchat, people began reaching out with requests—and the business has continued to grow from there.

Juana, a wife and mom of three, creates custom hand-painted banners for birthdays and other celebrations. Each banner is painted in her home craft room.

Although based in Madrid, Banner Con Amor is frequently recommended in the Granger and Woodward community Facebook groups when someone is looking for a custom banner. Juana said seeing people tag her business "made my heart so happy" and that she was surprised by how many people have recommended her.

If you want a banner of your own, it’s easy to get started. Customers send an inspiration photo, a party theme, or both, and Juana creates a mock-up for approval before painting the final banner. Juana prefers at least two weeks' notice for orders, though rush orders may be available depending on her schedule.

• Yes, That Speed Limit Changed
If you've noticed 60 mph overlay stickers covering speed limit signs around Granger, you're not imagining things. I honestly thought I was imagining it, too.

A new Iowa law took effect on July 1, 2026, increasing Iowa's default speed limit from 55 mph to 60 mph. The change affects many—but not all—of Iowa's rural paved roads and two-lane state highways. Some roads have separately established speed limits based on engineering and safety evaluations, which is why you may still see different speed limits on similar roadways.

The change has been a long time coming. Iowa's 55 mph default speed limit dates back to the 1970s, after Congress established a nationwide 55 mph maximum in 1974 in response to the 1973 oil embargo. When the federal limit was repealed in 1995, states regained the authority to set their own speed limits. Iowa, however, kept its 55 mph default until this year's law took effect.

Since July 1, the Iowa DOT and county road departments have been updating speed limit signs, but officials remind drivers to continue following the posted speed limit.
